On June 12th, 60 students from all over Albania gathered in the Embassy Tirana to compete in the 5th Annual Spelling Bee contest. After a warming-up round, the students started to spell the words in front of a panel of three American judges. The panel consisted of APAO Brian Street, Management Officer John Madden and Anne Cunningham, Ambassador Arvizu’s wife. The contest went on for more than three hours in a grueling battle, as the students were incredibly well prepared. The last eight amazing spellers ultimately forced the judges to exhaust their prepared words and choose new words from a more difficult level. After a spirited competition, Serena Seranaj finally won first place, second place went to Igli Manaj and third place was won by Darla Hoxha. The three judges congratulated the students and told them to always keep up the great work on studying the English language. All the participants received Certificates of Participation while the best spellers were awarded with a great selection of books and dictionaries. The event concluded with the traditional group photo with all the students and the jury.
