U.S. Embassy Statement

Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland today telephoned the leader of Albania’s Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha to encourage progress on the judicial reform effort.

Assistant Secretary Nuland stressed that political party leaders should use the June 6 meeting between Mr. Basha and Prime Minister Rama to agree to quick passage of a meaningful and comprehensive judicial reform package.

Nuland noted that this reform enjoys good support among the Albanian people, and it remains a top priority in U.S.-Albanian relations and for Albania’s progress toward the EU.
