U.S. Embassy Statement
The U.S. Embassy congratulates Altin Dumani on his election as SPAK Chief Prosecutor. All three candidates – Mr. Dumani, Adnan Xholi, and Edvin Kondili – are highly qualified and deserve full respect for their efforts. We look forward to continuing to work closely with all of them.
In furtherance of President Biden’s Memorandum on Establishing the Fight Against Corruption as a Core United States National Security Interest (June 2021), we will continue to strongly support the implementation of justice reform. We look forward to supporting Mr. Dumani and SPAK as they continue to combat corruption and organized crime. SPAK’s work must continue to demonstrate that no one is above the law. The time for impunity is over. Justice reform is not only a requirement for EU membership; it is the rightful demand of the Albanian people. The United States will always stand with the people of Albania.
We thank the High Prosecutorial Council for a selection process that sought to ensure the integrity of the process. It is essential for justice institutions to operate with integrity, without fear or favor.
We express our deep appreciation to Arben Kraja for his leadership and dedication as the first SPAK Chief Prosecutor. He has laid a firm foundation on which his successors can build.
