U.S. Embassy Funds Renovation of the 12 Year School in Mjede

On July 15, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission David Muniz, Adjutant General of New Jersey National Guard Brigadier General Michael L. Cunniff,  Albanian Land Forces Commander Brigadier General Nazmi Cahani, Defense Attaché Office, Commander Samuel Wartell, LTC Johnston, Chief of Office of Defense Cooperation, and Bilateral Affairs Office at the Office of Defense Cooperation, Major Richard Karcher joined local authorities in an inauguration ceremony marking the completion of renovation of the 12 year school in Mjede. The partial renovation of the school was made possible by the European Commands’ Humanitarian Civic Assistance (HCA) program of the U.S. Department of Defense.

Soldiers of the New York Air National Guard (NYANG) and New Jersey Air National Guard (NJANG) along with the Albanian Engineering Battalion and the 1st Infantry battalion worked side-by-side to renovate the bathrooms, gutters, replace doors and windows, paint the building, repair the roof, and upgrade the schoolyard. The Airmen from NYANG and NJANG were tasked to provide engineering and construction support to the 12 year school in Mjede and the medical clinic of the town of Vau i Dejes under their Annual Training while they are deployed overseas.

The improved, educational facilities will make it possible for 391 students and 30 teachers to have better opportunities to learn.  The HCA program provided USD $50,000.00 for the project.

This project represents the continuing commitment of the United States Government to work together with the Republic of Albania.
