Secretary of State John Kerry Visits Tirana, Albania

On February 14, 2016, Secretary of State John Kerry visited Tirana, Albania, where he met with senior government leaders to discuss Albania’s further Euro-Atlantic integration and strong bilateral cooperation with the United States. “The people of this country know full well and want to live in a place that where the rule of law means exactly that: It is the rule of law and its judges and prosecutors abide by exactly the same rules as the average citizen in every street, and that everyone else will be treated fairly, no matter what political party is in power and no matter who belongs to what party, no matter what your politics are…Albania has made significant progress and is clearly committed – no question about it – to achieving more. And in so doing, Albania can count on the full friendship and support of the people of the United States, of our government,” said Secretary John Kerry during his remarks after meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.  In addition to the bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Rama, Secretary Kerry met with members of the Democratic Party, and then held a discussion with a group of young Albanian leaders.
