Remarks by Ambassador Donald Lu at the Shkoder Special Needs School Opening

Mayor Ademi, Director Jahaj, dear students, ladies and gentlemen,

My favorite cousin is my cousin Barry.  He was a kid with different abilities and grew up to be a fine adult who is a talented athlete, has a good job, and has a very full life.  He achieved all this because of his loving parents and his excellent school.

We are pleased to cooperate with the 3 December School to provide an inspiring learning environment for the 91 children who study here.  Our Office of Defense Cooperation in the American Embassy organizes these projects to support communities in Albania and to build the relations between the people of Albania and the people of the United States.

Through this program, we have improved hospitals across Albania and are renovating schools in Kucove, Vlore, Vau i Dejes and now Shkoder.

I would like to thank Mrs. Jahaj and all of the staff of the 3 December School for working with us to improve the learning environment for the children who study here.

We are honored to participate in the amazing work that goes on in this school every day.  I hope one day that my cousin Barry can come to Shkoder and visit your wonderful school.
