Both parents/guardians must authorize the issuance of the child’s passport. The best way to do this is for both parents/guardians to appear with the child in person to apply for the passport. What if both parents/guardians cannot appear in person?
A Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) application must be made before the child’s 18th birthday, and we strongly recommend that parents apply for the CRBA as soon as possible after the child’s birth.

Yes, you will need to go through the entire visa application process each time you apply for a visa, even if your visa is still valid. Those who are renewing a previous U.S. visa or who meet certain other age-related criteria ***may*** qualify for a waiver of the visa interview. Eligibility is determined based on the answers provided to questions during the appointment scheduling process; however, consular officers reserve the right to require an interview for any visa applicant.
Applicants with urgent or emergency travel may apply for an expedited appointment via our scheduling website: https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-al/niv. To request an expedited visa appointment, first complete all the application steps and schedule a regular visa appointment on the closest available date. Then sign-in to your account, click 'Continue', select 'Request Expedite' and follow the instructions. Expedited appointments are not approved automatically. Their approval depends upon availability and the severity of the emergency in comparison to other requests for expedited service. The traveler should include in the request the date and purpose of the travel, including a detailed justification. Requests will be reviewed by an official and approved or denied based on the nature of the request and our operational status.
The processing time of the visa application and the printing of an approved U.S. visa varies in duration for each individual applicant. Please be aware that it may be necessary for the Embassy to retain your passport for up to 3 weeks following your visa interview in order to issue the visa. You should be prepared to leave your passport with the Embassy during this period. After attending the U.S. Consular Section interview, you may track the status of your visa application at https://ceac.state.gov/CEAC.
