Demonstration Alert for U.S. Citizens – December 12, 2020
Location: Various cities in Albania, including Shkoder and Tirana.
Event: The Embassy has received reports of large demonstrations taking place today in the downtown city center of Shkoder. Demonstrations of the past few days in the capital of Tirana have resulted in violence, and these protests may also continue.
Bear in mind that demonstrations may emerge in other parts of the country. U.S. citizens should closely monitor news outlets for updates and continue to avoid any large gatherings. While many demonstrations may begin peacefully, situations can change quickly and unpredictably, and violent clashes may occur.
