Demonstration Alert for U.S. Citizens – December 9, 2020
Location: Boulevard Deshmoret e Kombit, in front of government offices.
Event: The Embassy has received reports of protests taking place in front of government offices on boulevard Deshmoret e Kombit in Tirana. Reports indicate that some protesters are throwing objects at the police and officers were injured. Police officers are utilizing teargas and pepper spray to control the crowd. U.S. citizens should avoid large gatherings in the center city, as similar demonstrations could spread into other areas.
U.S. Embassy personnel and family members have been advised to avoid all locations where demonstrations are imminent or ongoing.
