Location: Throughout Albania
Date/Time: Unannounced
Event: A series of small protests are ongoing in and around the city of Tirana, and may spread to other cities in the country, as seen the past few days. As of the time of this message, protests are occurring near the Ministry of Energy on Skanderbeg Square in Tirana as well as the University of Agriculture on Rruga Paisi Vodica in Kamza (approximately 13 kilometers north of Tirana’s city center). However, additional protests may occur at any location within the country/city.
Other scheduled protests are expected to continue this week starting at 5:00pm in front of the Prime Minister’s Office on Deshmoret e Kombit Blvd. Another protest has been announced for Saturday, March 12 at 11:00am, which has the potential to be larger in size than previous gatherings. These protests have the potential to spread to surrounding streets causing traffic congestion, detours, and road closures.
U.S. citizens are advised to avoid large gatherings in the city. While many large events proceed peacefully, some situations can change quickly and unpredictably. Monitor local media and follow instructions of local law enforcement authorities for the latest information.
